I've been offered a job with Status Electric as a maintenance mechanic at their tool crib in Aldergrove. I am so excited to get back to what I love, working with tools and fixing things. No more selling parts just lots of grease and tools. Once I got the word and had accepted the position it was time to get the ole pickup truck insured and back on the road (an ego boost in it's self)then it was off to the local Marks Work Warehouse to grab me a fresh new pair of steel toed boots. Talk about feeling like a man again. I just had to give the ole arh arh arh grunt once I climbed into the truck the next morning sporting my new steelies for the drive over to go see my new home away from home for what I hope will be a very long time.
If that wasn't enough to put a smile on my face there was the fact that I've just finished and successfully passed a weekend of training to acquire my firearms license. I've done this at the request of my step father to position myself as the inheritor of his firearms collection if and when he passes in the future. This was a huge concern for him as otherwise his guns would likely be seized by the RCMP and sold/destroyed if not claimed by a licensed family member. Needless to say he is very relieved now in knowing his collection will be in safe hands and kept within the family for future generations.
Less than 2 weeks has passed since completing the firearms coarse and yet the word has already gotten out that I've become licensed and now there's a bunch of men at my church who have all become very excited to hear the news. Why you ask well I've just found out that there is actually an unofficial little secret brotherhood of hunters in my church to which I have been informally invited into and have been encouraged to go one step further and take the CORE course to acquire my hunting license as well so they can include me into the annual deer hunt this fall. I was very honored to be so readily accepted into the fold. So between hunting with my step father and the guy's at church i will definitely get my fill this upcoming season.
Looking to the future I can honestly say that I definitely feel blessed by God and am pretty lucky to have such great influences available even at this late stage in my life. Coming from a single parent home hasn't offered me the luxury of a manly influence growing up yet through my new step father and these great bunch of guy's at church I am getting some solid advise and examples of how to be the best father and husband that one can be.
So stay tuned there definitely going to be some exciting posts to come as this new page and chapter begins,
